The easy life of fishing in Kirby suggests an otherwise joyful, restful period of escape. Here Kirby is out fishing, in a field where he doesn’t have to worry about anything. The grass is tall; the sky enormous and alive. The clouds are moving, the brushwork scratchy — but at the center of all this is Kirby, calm and happy.

You almost feel like the whole thing is dreamlike, so you feel sort of innocent and peaceful. A thick texture and bright brushstrokes render it richly expressive in a colorful medium. Its greens and blues are soft enough to be almost nostalgic and somewhat calm, almost meditative. This one is about getting at peace and finding peace, focusing on the small things, just being around, breathing and letting things pass.
